Together with blue-infinity and IT Training Academy, Devoxx4kids organised their first IT programming atelier for children aged 9-14 in Geneva on Saturday 26th October.
The goal of Devoxx4Kids is to share the passion of creative computer programming with children through 1/2 day ateliers where they learn to develop computer games and program robots. Teachers are volunteer IT professionals, and since the very first edition of Devoxx4Kids Belgium in 2012, the initiative has caught on quickly in France, Holland, UK, Denmark and Canada.
THE VERY FIRST SESSION IN SWITZERLAND
The first session in Switzerland was organised together with blue-infinity and the IT Training Academy, at their premises.
Xavier Bourgignon, the initiator of the event in Switzerland, and president of the Geneva Java User Group said with a smile "I found the concept particularly interesting as I have three children who do not understand what I do all day..."
In this first atelier, the children learned how to create cool animations and games using two tools: Scratch et Greenfoot. The children were paired up for the work and then presented their creations to proud parents at the end of the afternoon.
Both children and their parents are already waiting for the next session to be organised
