Meet our people: Michael

Meet the diverse people at blue-infinity that help make us distinctive. Michael hit the ground running when he joined blue-infinity, bringing drive and dynamism to an international role.

"There are so many nationalities, cultures, different ways of doing's been fun observing different shopper behaviour between continental Europe and the UK, as it applies directly to my role."

Briton Michael West is now on a second assignment with blue-infinity as Lead Consultant Salesforce, after completing a successful project for an international FMCG client. His position involved ecommerce market development from Russia to Japan, with a team of five developers, release managers, market owners, and 1-2 technical leads that make his circle of communication diverse and varied. 

"In this role, I was advising teams on delivery methods for our go-live in Moscow, for example. How to prioritise release schedules, by making decisions on development timing and which best practices to use. That's important when we deal with different channels, anything from click and collect, omnichannel roll-outs and QR coding. A lot of those are also new areas for our clients."

So, what about Michael's beginnings? "I became interested in project management after positions in recruitment, and later e-commerce with brands like Marks & Spencers, Ann Summers, and Timberland based in the UK. I made the move to blue-infinity via LinkedIn, and settled in Switzerland. A view of the alps is somewhat an improvement to certain parts of the UK - as oppose to an armpit in your face everyday on the London underground!"

What kinds of changes are occuring in the digital world? "There's always something new around the corner. New ways of shopping, augmented reality, social media... trends I like to follow myself, especially in ecommerce."

Michael is now sinking his teeth into a new project, this time steering more towards pure ecommerce, involving a mobile app launch. "It's a first for me, and includes a German audience too. The schedule will be a challenge and I'm really excited about it.

Overall, I'd like to progress in my field, and pick up some formal project management qualifications like SCRUM. I'm already a PRINCE2 Practitioner and with added Salesforce training, I can build on that. I see myself as a hardworker, a get up and go person, so if developers are working in the weekend, I'll be online too - juggling priorities and needs at all times.

blue-infinity offer a great chance to meet friends, colleagues that are approachable and friendly. Not everybody is the same, but I try to break the ice with a British sense of humour. Sometimes it works, sometimes not! I think everyone is interested in digital - it's hard not be plugged in, when our company offers so much advancement for clients technologically speaking."

Advice for a new recruit? "Throw yourself into it and don't be afraid to ask questions..."
